National defense and Alabama physicians files, 1940-1946.

These records cover health care and physicians in Ala. during World War II. The correspondence concerns procurement and assignment of physicians, interns, and residents in the state; military clearance of state physicians; quotas of residents and interns allocated to the state; and physicians assigned to the Tennessee Valley Authority staff. The letters are between Dr. B.F. Austin, chairman of Procurement and Assignment Services for Ala. and state universities, the U.S. Public Health Service, and local draft boards. Also included are lists of Ala. physicians, rosters of the state Medical Association, memoranda, and selective service bulletins.
